The Park Planning and Projects plays six crucial roles toward meeting the park and recreation needs of the residents and visitors of Sarasota County.

  1. ACQUIRE new parks, preserve and beach/waterfront property and conservation easements through Land Acquisition and Management Programs.
  2. ASSESS and EVALUATE the best uses of park properties based on site conditions and user needs.
  3. CREATE master plans, park designs, management plans, and interpretive plans that reflect the best use of each site to meet community needs.
  4. FACILITATE the construction of new parks and recreation facilities, and improvements to existing parks.
  5. MONITOR the use of recreation facilities and recreation trends to ensure that our parks continue to meet the recreational needs of the public.
  6. MANAGE our beautiful beaches and natural areas to meet the County’s stewardship objectives.
