Honor someone special through our Commemorative Program
We can all think of someone or something worth remembering. Honoring that memory through Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources' Commemorative Picnic Table and Bench Program is our way of providing family members and friends with a means of recognizing loved ones, civic groups or businesses.
Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources offers many opportunities to honor or memorialize the people you love, admire and miss in your life by acknowledging a special birthday, a place of importance or a life milestone.
Locations
Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources has predetermined locations and quantities of commemorative items that are available for placement. Staff will work with you to select the appropriate style bench or table, ensuring compatibility with existing park furnishings.
Plaques
Donor recognition will be in the form of an engraved plaque with typical plaques accommodating four lines of text. All plaques designed through the program will feature consistency in look, cost, type and mounting.
- Plaque sizes may vary depending on the item ordered.
- All plaques and memorials being placed in any public space within Sarasota County, whether it be in a park, on a beach or natural area, will be required to conform to the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources policy.
- Any existing plaque or memorial cannot be taken as a precedent for future approvals.

Commemorative Terms
The guaranteed term for a commemorative wood item is 5 years, or 10 years for a concrete item.
At the end of the display time, the commemorative item will be available for renewal based upon current fee schedule, with the first right of refusal given to the original donor. If the original donor opts not to renew, the donated bench and plaque may be removed.
Within the specified time, Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources will replace the item in the event of damage at no cost to donor. The disposition or relocation of the bench/plaque is at the sole discretion of the county.
Approved items shall be paid for by the donor in advance of the item being delivered and installed. Wood items will be ordered and installed quarterly, and concrete orders biannually. Styles of commemorative items subject to change and may differ if part of a park redesign or planning project.
